IMGs Participating in 2018 Match Should Apply for Step 2 CS Now

To participate in the National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®) Main Residency Match®, international medical students/graduates must have passed all exams required for ECFMG Certification. If you plan to participate in the 2018 Match (in March 2018) and still need to pass Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS), you should register now to take the examination.

To help ensure that your result will be available in time to participate in the 2018 Match, you must take Step 2 CS by December 31, 2017. If you do not register now and schedule soon, it is possible that you will not be able to obtain a test date in 2017. At the time of this writing, the earliest available test date at any test center is in August 2017.

The USMLE program also strongly encourages medical students/graduates to schedule their exams early to obtain a testing appointment this year.

If you register and schedule now, you can change your scheduled testing appointment (subject to availability) at no cost, provided you give notice of more than 14 days.

Follow ECFMG on Facebook for periodic updates on availability of Step 2 CS testing appointments. Detailed information on the results reporting schedule for Step 2 CS is available on the ECFMG website.

Updated Version of Step 2 CS Orientation Video

An updated version of the USMLE Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS) orientation video has been posted to the USMLE website. While the content and scoring of the exam have not changed, we encourage all Step 2 CS examinees to watch the updated video and to read the USMLE Step 2 CS Content Description and General Information booklet before taking the exam.

Enhanced Security Policies at CSEC Test Centers

Enhanced security policies went into effect at all Clinical Skills Evaluation Collaboration (CSEC) test centers on April 4, 2017. The enhanced security procedures are being conducted to inspect for electronic devices.

The USMLE Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS) examination is administered at CSEC test centers in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, and Philadelphia.

CSEC administrators now conduct inspections of all eyeglasses, jewelry, and other accessories.

  • All examinees will be required to remove eyeglasses for visual inspection by the test center administrators. These inspections will be brief and will be performed during the check-in process.
  • Jewelry, except for wedding and engagement rings, is prohibited.
  • Hair accessories are subject to inspection. Examinees should not wear ornate clips, combs, barrettes, headbands, and other hair accessories. Examinees wearing any of these items on test day may be asked to store such items in their lockers.
